President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, ‘panicked’, became distressed and screamed for his mother Melania, after seeing Kathy Griffin’s infamous ‘beheading’ photo, because he didn’t even know who Griffin was and didn’t understand the context of the photo.
The photo of Griffin holding Trump’s severed head was taken during a photo shoot with L.A. based artist Tyler Shields, was published on Tuesday morning and sparked a firestorm online, with backlash coming from both sides of the political aisle and thousands of people calling for a boycott of Griffin’s national comedy tour.
According to reports, Trump’s youngest son was watching television when he saw the image of Griffin holding a fake, bloody, decapitated head, meant to resemble the president’s head.
A family source said: “He’s 11. He doesn’t know who Kathy Griffin is and the head she was holding resembled his dad.”
First lady Melania Trump, said that as a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing.
The shocking images quickly set social media alight, with many calling for her to be locked up for supposedly ‘threatening’ the president.
Trump slammed Griffin on Wednesday morning, branding the comedian ‘sick’ in a Tweet today and saying that she “should be ashamed of herself” for posting a video of the photo shoot on social media.
He wrote: “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron are having a hard time with this. Sick!”
But, Griffin initially defended the shoot in since-deleted tweets, writing: “I do not condone ANY violence by my fans or others to anyone, ever! I am merely mocking the Mocker in Chief.”
She has since been forced into a groveling apology – the first of her career.
In a video posted to her Facebook account, Kathy said: “I sincerely apologize. I am just now seeing the reaction of these images.
“I am a comic – I crossed the line. I moved the line and then I crossed it, and I went way too far.
“The image is too disturbing and I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny I get it.
“I have made a lot of mistakes in my career, I will continue. I’m asking for forgiveness. Taking down the image, gonna ask the photographer to take down the image and I beg for forgiveness.
“I went too far, I made mistake and it was wrong.”
But some, including Trump’s son, have refused to accept Griffin’s apology.
Donald Trump Jnr tweeted today: “The #kathygriffin phony apology would be a lot easier to believe if there wasn’t a video of her mocking the response she knew was coming.”
